UEA in Moab

Since we couldn't go to Lake Powell with our friends who had invited us, I felt like we needed to do something for fall break.  So, we got one of the last rooms left in Moab and went there with about half of the state of Utah and a lot of Japanese and French tourists.
Sue Kowallis is a Moab pro and texted us an agenda for the two days we were there.  We visited and hikes Arches and Canyonlands and did every single thing on her list except we did not get gelato...we got fudge instead!

All of Mariah's friends were busy so she was solo with us.  She was a great sport but she also said that she really would like to go with her brothers!  We couldn't even believe that because as an only child...she could order anything she wanted on the menu and she got her own queen sized bed.
We saw lots of the famous arches and some of the hikes were a little more scary than we anticipated.  The good thing was that we saw those little kids and those old folks doing it so we figured we could too!

 Oh look!  Another Arch!
Dave and I did not plan to dress alike, but we did.

 See those steep rocks!
 Going across them.
So that we can see another arch!
We really liked the rock towers that guided us on our hikes.  This was a cool one because it was so tall.
When I was taking a picture of it, I told Mariah and Dave to move so that I wouldn't get their shadows in it.  It still didn't fix the problem and finally Mariah said, "Mom, you have a shadow!"
The last time we were in Moab was when Bo was 6 months old.  It was hot and super windy and we ended up going home a day early because I just could not endure another night in a tent as the wind blew sand in while I tried to feed a screaming baby.  This sand tunnel was the highlight for the whole trip.  When the Law cousins found this, it was cool and shady and they spent a very long time playing in ti.
We made an evening hike to delicate arch.  We tried to catch the sunset, but the clouds covered that up.  Needless to say it was still a great ending to the day.

After State...

After the State Meet, we had a tired Mariah who just wanted some food and some sleep.  She chose a variety of snacks from Trader Jos and added a little sushi as one of them.
We also grabbed a few flowers for this girl who had worked so hard!

State Tennis Meet

Early morning meeting before the beginning of the state tennis games.
Mariah went in as a 4th place and had to play a girl in 1st place from Richfield.

Mariah did a great job and was able to beat the game.
The game lasted 2 1/2 hours for two sets.  These girls were at deuce more times that we could even count!  It was a very long match!
Coach Battistone chatting with her during a game break.  He is amazing.
The end of the game packing up.

This was the smile of a relieved and very happy girl.
 Hugs from Coach Wallace.
 Hugs from Coach Embelton.
Mariah's second match was against a senior from Pine View.
Mariah ended up losing this match, but she did excellent and we couldn't be prouder.
We already are looking forward to next year and Mariah is already planning her practices and tournaments that she wants to attend in this down time!
