It's Zucchini Time

If zucchini has a bad rap at your house, it won't if you turn it into CAKE. This is probably my family's favorite cake of all time. It certainly is mine. I tasted someone else's zucchini cake recipe last night and that's when I realized that Aunt Sandra's recipe for this cake is definitely better!

Zucchini Cake

1 cube margarine
1 3/4 cup sugar
Mix together.

1/2 cup oil
1 t. vanilla
2 eggs
Add to sugar and mix.

1/2 cup buttermilk
2 1/2 cup flour
1 t. baking powder
4 1/2 T. cocoa
1 t. soda
1 t. salt
Mix in gently.

2 cups grated zucchini
Add and mix.

Put into 9x13 greased pan. Sprinkle on 3/4 cup brown sugar, 3/4 cup chocolate chips, 3/4 cups nuts. Bake 350 for 40 minutes.

August 24, The First Day of School

Deja Vu (Or However You Spell It)

O.k. what's wrong with this picture? It looks so familiar, but it is August. Captain cannot possible be that small. Cado found his female pup so that someday he can be the proud owner of AKC Golden Retrievers. Little does Captain know that this is his future girlfriend.

Needless to say, Cado is back in the laundry room sleeping. He should be able to get back in his own room in about February.

The Fun Fair

The County Fair was this week so the kids who had not sheared their sheep yet, hurried over on Monday to get that done. Then the sheep were off to Duchesne.

The sheep all made weight, which is the first obstacle of the fair and then they each had to be washed...again.

Mariah got really good at doing everything for her lamb. She became a pro at getting it's halter on, leading it, washing it and showing it. That was until the final auction. You will see in the little video clip below that her lamb was not excited to get sold. As it ran out, the auctioneer didn't quite know what to do, so he simply kept the bidding going and by the time she came back, she had $550.00 dollars to take home!

Cado, Jace and Gavin were pretty much together 24/7 throughout the fair. The spent two nights there in the Nielsen's camper and would have stayed another, had their parents not all said, "We want you to come home!" I think that they thought being "parentless" was pretty cool.

Here's a judge checking out the sheep and asking the kids questions about them. Guess what question he asked Cado? "Do you play basketball?" He must have seen the shoes he was wearing!

It's a tradition to go floating down the Duchesne River that is right by the fairgrounds.

Bo, Mariah and Cado pose after a successful sale day. They have to split the money they make (which is most beneficial to Bo this year) and they will each come home with $533.00 this year. That should pay for half of one of those future college courses!

Mom's Blackberry

Dayton's first email today said, "Did you get a blackberry?"

I responded back, "Yes, it is so cool."

Then he replied, "Oh my gosh my family is not even the same anymore! What the holy smokes happened to the Mom who didn't even know what a text message was a year ago?"

We had to laugh at this one!

It's Stock Show Time

Cado and Roo spent Friday washing and shearing their lambs. Next week is the stock show. This will be Mariah's first.

Cado's AWESOME Tournament

Cado's basketball team spent Tuesday through Thursday playing in a Salt Lake tournament. This was the same tournament that they got killed in last year. Well this year was different and these boys came out the champions and Cado quite possibly had the best game of his life in the championship match. One of the teams they played was even coached by Thurl Bailey and Ryan Cuff. They are ex-famous basketball players. Now they are probably looking at Dave L., Dave W. and Rick N. for some coaching advice :)

Look at these kids body language...they are pretty pleased with themselves.
I think that this just might be one of Dave's happiest moments of his life. It may even beat the day he got married!

The only thing these kids asked for was supper at the Texas Roadhouse Grill if they won. So, we all happily ate there at 10:00 p.m. after this winning game. MMMmmm.

The Whirlwind Week of a Star!

Bo's whirlwind week of stardom was filled with everything from moving furniture to MC'ing the Friday night talent show, to performing for his largest crowd ever, to being adored by his fans throughout the parade!

One funny story about the parade was that Bo had decided to eat one of the DUM DUM suckers that they were throwing to the fans. Needless to say, it was a terrible flavor, so Bo wrapped it back up and set it on the floor of the truck. Before he knew it, they had run out of candy and the fans were yelling for more. Zach quickly found the half eaten sucker and threw it to the crowd before Bo could tell him to STOP! Oh man, I am hoping that Roosevelt City will not ban candy throwing because of this! HA HA

There was an awesome flag made out of Dr. Pepper and Pepsi cans.
Here Bo is throwing out a water bottle. Oh I hope he hasn't already drunk from it too!

Bo's Fan Club for Mr. UBIC

As we were sitting in the audience waiting for Mr. UBIC to begin, I began to see green and pink shirts arrive with the letter P on them. Then I thought that I caught a glimpse of the word "Pablo" on the back of one of the shirts. That perked my curiosity and I told Dave, "I think those girls may be here for Bo because they have been calling him Pablo since they were in Spanish class together in the ninth grade."

I went over to Blakeley to find out. When I asked her if they were here for Bo, she looked at me like she was surprised I would even have any doubts about that and exclaimed, "YES." It was so cute. I made them stand up for pictures.

All during the event they were Bo's best cheering fans. They even waved their cell phones while he sang and as I looked around the audience, others started waving their cell phones too.

There was not one other Mr. UBIC contestant who had a fan club as obvious as Bo's!
