St. Augustin

We absolutely loved St. Augustine.  It was settled in 1565 and so there was so much history there.  There was the oldest house, the oldest Catherdral (where the Pope is coming to this year).  There was the oldest fort and the oldest tree.  It was absolutely beautiful.

I spent a lot of time going around on the tour bus and visiting museums while Dave was in conference.  I learned where the term "jailbird" comes from.  They would tie inmates in this cage and hang them in a tree for 2 days if they were misbehaving.
They would hit the gallows if they were really misbehaving!

The oldest US fort was there.  This was the area where the soldiers would sleep.

We had so many delicious meals.

This is the beautiful Catholic Cathedral.

I did make it to the Fountain of Youth and I drank from it, so I am pretty much set for life.  I brought Dave and my kiddos some water as well so that they can stay young with me.

This is an exact replica of "David."  Because he is totally naked, the city finally grew some bushes around him. They received too many complaints about his nakedness!  So, now he is a modest David.

Waiting For Luggage

We spent our first day waiting for luggage, because it literally had everything I needed in it.  We walked up and down Daytona Beach and it was hot, but it was a really neat beach.  It was the first beach we have ever seen where they let people drive their cars on it.  That made it handy to bring in all of the beach stuff you would need for the day.

St. Augustine Florida

Thanks to my mistake of not really booking Dave's ticket to Florida when I thought I had, I ended up being able to go with him.  Yep, I went to check Dave's flight status on Thursday and found that he had NO flight status for his upcoming Sunday travels.  I was totally sick knowing that buying a ticket for him would now cost a lot more.  Needless to say, I actually found a ticket for about half the price of his original one and that's when he said, "I think you should come."  So with a little convincing and a lot of extra work preparing classes for the week, I booked a flight and Dave and I were off withing 24 hours.

The only bad part of our trip was our flights.  US Airways completely and totally stunk in the airline category.  Four of our 5 flights were very delayed.  Our one out there was delayed a total of 4 hours and by the time we got there at midnight...I had no luggage.  So, the Marriott man gave me some stuff to get me through the night.  I was most amused at the two packs of salt and pepper that he sent as well.

The New Deck...Happy Father's Day to Dave

Mariah and I have been working on making the deck a more inviting place.  We now have deck furniture to help with that.  It's a lot more fun to go sit on the deck...when there is something to sit on.  Tonight we are going to go eat cookies and milk out there just because we can. :)

Stillwater

Everybody in Roosevelt is making the trek up to Stillwater Dam because it is doing something that doesn't happen very often...it is spilling over.  I guess this is the widest dam of this type in the USA and watching it spill over, due to so much spring rain is a beauty and a blessing to our community.

What a great picture!

First Cove 1st 5K!

The first ever Cove 1st Ward 5k was held on Saturday.  We didn't have a big turnout, but the people who were there had a great time and went home happy, hot and tired.  We had Ridge Hadlock, who is 12 who even  gave up going to Olive Garden with his family to run and we had the cute Gamble family whose four boys were so excited to run it that they even slept in their special yellow shorts and one of them even wore his shoes to bed!  They even watched "MacFarland USA" the night before for inspiration.  It was just so darn cute.

There was only one accident during the race and that was when Jill Gamble's stroller lost it's front wheel.  Her little guy went tumbling out, but he's a tough kid and survived.  That was not enough to stop them though and they finished the race...wheeless.
This is Dave's picture for his promotional Facebook post to inspire the Ward to wake up and run!
Everyone was grateful for the water at the half way mark.  It also helped that we had a POWER button to push that gave us energy for the second half of the race.

Mariah and Emily were the water and Power girls.  They only had to fill about 10 cups.  ha ha

 Gamble and Hadlock power stop.
 Candace's power stop.
 Marlene and Jill's power stop.

This is probably the first time I will win a race.  Karen and I pretty much tied so we each took a turn wearing the prized hats!
Grandma Law even came out to be the time keeper!  What support.  It was a great morning.
