A Sweet Letter From Cado's Mission President

Dear Brother and Sister Law,

Thanks so much for this note and your kind words.  Elder Law has been an exceptional missionary and was like a son to my wife and me.  We have found that each transfer cycle becomes more difficult as we see “our missionaries” go home to begin the next phase in their lives.  He is remarkably loving and spiritual and has had a huge impact on not only us, but also the other missionaries because of his example and leadership.

I have to share with you how it was revealed to my wife and me that your son should serve as an assistant in the mission.  About 3-4 months after we arrived, we realized that the mission had reached a plateau and was not progressing.  We felt there needed to be a “culture change” and sought ways to help the missionaries buy in to that idea.  We held zone conferences to try to teach this message.  Knowing that all these missionaries are “millennials” and that they seek and accept ideas from their peers, we assigned various missionaries to teach the principle.  One of them was your son, who was serving as a zone leader at the time.  All of those assigned gave wonderful talks but Elder Law’s talk was especially powerful.  He seemed to have a complete understanding of what needed to be done and how to convey that message.  It expressed vision and complete loyalty to what the Lord wanted to have done here.  My wife leaned over to me and said, “He gets it.  He has the vision.”  I agreed.  My wife has felt immense respect and love for him since that time because she was able to see in him the qualities of Christ-like leadership.  He has always been so kind, respectful and loyal to us.  I can’t remember if we shared this experience with Elder Law, but feel free to do so when the mood is right.

I had the opportunity to work extensively with him during interchanges with other missionaries, including some special time spent together in the car getting to the area where we were going to work that day.  You have an exceptional son.  We will always remember him and want to stay involved in his life.  Thanks for raising such a wonderful young man and for sharing him with us.

Sincerely,

Pres. and Sister Nelson
