We're Really Very Simple People

You know that we must be very simple people when you realize that "finding the cheese grater" was a bloggable moment. Yes, Dave found it last night. We knew it had to be somewhere. We had searched everywhere. We had even given up and purchased a rather pathetic cheese grater to take its place. When Dave found it back in the depths of one of our cabinets, he cheered with joy and called all the children into the room. It will be one of the special family moments that generations will talk about! Yes, we are very simple people! HA

Guns on Campus!

We have just found out the USU in Logan has had a weapons scare this past Friday. A large powered gun was brought to campus and even into a large conference room where students were preparing to give their Spanisn 1010 Finals. Unfortutely, we have also found out that the carrier of that weapon was our very own son, Dayton Law. We are happy to report that no one was injured. Rather, his professor realized that when he had given them their FINAL ASSIGNMENT "to do a presentation on 'something' in Spanish" that he had NOT remembered to tell them that guns of any type were not allowed on campus. Needless to say, Dayton decided to do his presentation on how to work a paintball gun. He said, "My professor turned white when I brought it out and didn't seem to know what to do." It was at that moment that Dayton realized he "might" be in trouble.

The SmART Festival

Mariah was a diligent helper at the SmART Festival until her friends showed up. Then she was history. She did help get a lot of it organized and she did take over the great hat that I was given to wear! We made sidewalk chalk with about 600 kids. Of course, we had the messiest booth.

I Hate Roosevelt

This is what I said on Sunday as I was getting into the car heading to church. The wind was blowing so badly that it has blown shingles off of two different sections of our roof. I was not in a good mood and I was not liking the town I lived in at the moment. Needless to say, the speaker did not show up for Sacratment Meeting and the bishop called a few people out the audience to fill in. Unfortunately I was one of them and I did not have a good attitude. I began my little talk with those exact words, "I hate Roosevelt..." Then I explained why. That darn wind. Well, I soon found out that there is a whole church house full of "wind haters" and I heard more stories than I have ever heard! I guess that was my blessing for the day. At least I'm not the only one who hates the wind.

Carrie--I can't believe you left the best parts of this story, Shirlene! Like the part about you laughing when Allen called up the Grants to bear their testimonies, and then the part about how Dave was called up too, but didn't hear because he was laughing so hard at you! --just had to add those in!

Bo's Game againt Judge

Bo had another game against Judge on Friday. Just like before, they got beat...badly. Oh well. Mariah and I drove there as fast as we could after her competition but arrived just as the end of game whistle blew. Bo still came home with us and we found some good deals at Smiths again! So, once again, it was a successful day!

Mariah Clogging

Here is Mariah before her competition.
Here she is with the awards she won. Good job Mariah!

Mariah's Clogging Competition in Taylorsville

Mariah competed with her team in Taylorsville last Friday. They really impressed me. Mariah is the cute dancer in front! Watch her video.

We're Technologically Advanced

I've started using Instant Messaging. It is fun, and I hope when the newness wears off I won't waste so much time doing it. Maybe it is just a phase like karaoke was! Anyway, I finally got Shirlene on Yahoo Chat--we have been e-mail back and forth friends for quite a while now... So, today when we were on IM she left and when she came back she called my computer, so I grabbed my headphones and mic and started talking to her. This worked great because I could fold my laundry while I talked and just read her replies. Then when she started getting smart alec (see pic), I just had to grab my camera! By the way, Shirlene is almost never that smart alec in person! I told her that if she got a mic too, we could hear each other and she could do other things too. Then I thought that that would be kind of like talking on the phone...and I hardly ever talk to her on the phone--there are all those awkward pauses, and then you feel like you should say goodbye; whereas, on the internet you can just talk about nothing forever...

Running Into Nephews!

We ran into Joyce's boys, Laken and Townsen, at the BYU Ballroom Dance Festival on Saturday. They were quite surprised to see us there. It's a small world!

Second Annual Girl's Weekend

Last year Shirlene and I decided to take our girls on a Mother/Daughter weekend, and we had such a great time that we decided to do it every year! So, on Friday we went out to SLC and had dinner at Kyoto's which was really fun and the food was delicious. I had booked Dad's apt. for the night, because he was home in Vegas this weekend, so we headed over to his place or at least tried to...we had some navigational problems. When we finally arrived at the Woodbridge Luxury Spa, we enjoyed numerous treatments and had a lot of picture taking going on! We relaxed until well past midnight. The next morning we enjoyed some delicious crepes and sausage for breakfast and started our manicures and pedicures. We all looked FABULOUS! We packed up and left to begin our shopping. Just after we pulled out I realized that I left my mp3 adapter at Dad's, so we went back and I got out to go get it. When I got out, the neighbor pointed out that our back tire was low. Shirlene and I looked and it was FLAT! Luckily, Dad's landlord came out and pumped up the tire for us and sent us to Discount Tire where we got it fixed for free! We felt blessed that we were able to discover the problem and get it solved so easily.

Next, we drove down to Provo and had lunch at Einstein's and then we went to the BYU Ballroom Dance show. It was fabulous! I enjoyed the entire show and would love to go again sometime. Afterwards we finally got to go shopping and then, totally exhausted, we headed home. Thanks for a great weekend girls!

Dave's Birthday

Dave turned 45 today. Mariah made him this cute note and put it in her very own decorated picture frame.

Not the Bus...AGAIN!

Last night Dave and I were trying to figure out rides to school for the kids. Once again we ran into the same dilemna I had had two nights before. Once again, I decided to tell the kids that they would need to ride the bus! Well you can imagine the scenario. Mariah was totally fine with it and went to bed. Cayden was still gone to scouts and so I prewarned Dave to watch his meltdown. When Cayden came home, I told him the dire news. It was picture perfect. Dave laughed (to himself) as we watched the drama unfold. The first picture is Cayden putting on his hoodie so we could not see him! The second picture is Cayden giving Dave a foot massage, in his own special way, so that Dave WOULD drive him to school in the morning. Super Nanny would NOT be impressed with our parenting practices tonight!

Cayden Survived the Bus!

The top picture is Cayden with his ample supply of golf balls. It provides a lot of entertainment for him and his friend Jace, as they ever search for balls. He just brought home another 87 today. Thank goodness they split them!

The biggest news for Cayden though, it that he actually survived riding the school bus on Wednesday. Our neighbors put the fear of "the bus" in him the day we moved in and he has NEVER ridden it. I told him that he needed to ride it that morning because Dave wasn't around and Bo was gone to early morning Jazz Band. Cayden was mortified at that news and tried every avenue he could to find a way out! I told him he could walk with me and Carrie! He finally decided to ride the bus. When he got home from school, I asked him how it was. He said it was fine. When I told Dave about the ordeal, Cayden said, "Mom, you just can't get over this can you?"

Dave's Operation

I just talked to Dave. He is alive. He had a hernia fixed this morning. He had to have it done in Price. They rescheduled from Monday to today so I couldn't go with him. Luckily his mom is there and she will take great care of him. He sounds a little woozy but he should be up and running...o.k., maybe walking slowly, soon!

Grandma Call Update

Grandma Call made it to Salt Lake in the ambulance on Saturday. She was on 15 liters of oxygen when she left which is not good. When she got back she was on 6 liters! Amazing. We told her that she just wanted a trip to the city and she was bound to get it one way or another!

It's Looking Like Spring

Cayden and Jace moved the old, broken basketball hoop to the trampoline. Cayden has been wanting to do that for years now. He is really getting in to trampoline ball. Having no backboard makes it a little tricky though!

Union vs. Judge Memorial

Posted by Picasa

It was another soccer adventure for Union this past Friday. They played Judge and all three teams pretty much got humbled. Not that Union soccer has an ego anyway! The good thing about it is that Bo just never seems to get upset. We heard other parents talking about how grumpy their sons would be when they got home and Dave and I just laughed because Bo hardly even notices if they win or lose, he just plays the game!

Grandma Call Update

They are taking Grandma Call to Salt Lake by ambulance today. They can't get her over her infections and so they are seeing if changing the tubes that lead into her kidneys may help. She usually has the tubes changed every 6 weeks but is not strong enough to go without medical help right now. She traveled in an ambulance one other time to Salt Lake and said it was the most miserable ride of her life. This will be a very hard day for her.

Mom, Is That Another Coupon?

Yesterday Mariah and I went to Vernal and we did some grocery shopping at Smiths (for their good deals of course)! As the cashier gave me my receipt, she also handed me a...you guessed it...COUPON! Mariah looked at me and said in her slightly sarcastic tone, "Mom, is that another $10.00 coupon?"

The disappointing thing was that it wasn't. It was only good for some free flowers.
