Our First Eggs

Last week we gave away our seven roosters to some country folks, who wanted seven roosters for some unknown reason. Then we had seven left. That sounded pretty good to us. Since then, I have found one dead chicken (thanks to Captain) in the field and another has disappeared. That has left us with five. Last night we heard a familiar, "cock-a-doodle-doo," coming from the pen. I guess that leaves us with four chickens. Not quite the brood I was envisioning. Fortunately, Cado found the first eggs and was happy to test them out. I still think that we are going to have to supplement our egg income with store bought eggs. These four chickens cannot possibly keep up with our family! Oh well, there's always next year to hatch some more in preschool.
