Day 3- Ceviche's Revenge!

Today we left Valladolid, but not before we went to the leather shop and bought some stylin' sandals to accentuate our pedicures. Dave found a nice belt. You can watch them make leather goods in the back room.

Our first stop today was the Fort of San Felipe which was used to defend against pirates. Unfortunately it was closed, but it had a great view of the Lake Bacalar, where we took a swim. It connects to the Carribean, but is fresh water, and it was very blue.

Well, some of us swam--some of us just looked good on the shore! Next, we went to Cenote Azul and ate and swam.

Shirlene's favorite dish--shrimp ceviche.

We asked our bus driver, Gustavo, to have lunch with us. He is our amigo from back when we had a good seat on the bus.

Allen and I shared mixed ceviche, which had shrimp, conch, and octopus. Later that night we would get "revenge of ceviche". (Actually it could have been from something else, but that is basically all we ate that day.) Thank goodness Allen had Dr. Kryzmowski write us a prescription for Ciprofloxacin (antibiotics). We also took imodium, pepto bismol, and drank a coke right away. For the next few days my stomach hurt mostly at night and in the morning, but it wasn't too bad. Dave had something going on for a few days too. Shirlene remained unscathed.

I took a flying leap off the high dive into the cenote. Don, Dave and Allen did it too, but I definitely think I made it look the best. Afterwards, we continued on to Chetumal.
