Day 6- Tulum

Today was Shirlene's birthday, so of course I announced it on the bus and we all sang Feliz Cumpleanos to her, then we headed to Tulum.

Guess what Shirlene got for her birthday? That's right, Mexican sandals, what else?

Tulum was a temple site, and it was by far my favorite. I'm not sure if it was because it was right on the beach (every ruin ought to have a beach by it), or if it was because of all the symbolism that our guide pointed out. Either way it was beautiful and interesting to learn about.

Our guide, Ruth, was very knowledgable, and although she is forbidden to use the words Book of Mormon, 3 Nephites, Nephites or Lamanites, she was able to point out a lot of interesting things. She believes the people here had the full gospel until they turned away and started offering human sacrifices. She said it was written that when that happened "the three brothers departed with much sorrowing." She also showed some interesting glyphs to those of us who are endowed.
Just like Ek Balam, these ruins were literally crawling with iguanas. They seem to like to sit up high on the corners of the ruins, they reminded me of gargoyles.

Putting our pedicures to good use on the beach.
